Breathing breaks

Hourly breathing breaks, right in your browser

Once an hour, SanityMode gently asks you to come up for air with a 20-second box breath. No timer to start. No streak to maintain. Just one calm moment.

The pattern

  • You realise you've been holding your breath while scrolling.
  • You haven't stood up since the morning meeting.
  • Your shoulders are somewhere around your ears.

What SanityMode does

4-4-4-4 box breath

Four seconds in, four hold, four out, four hold. One cycle. 'Nice. Carry on.' That's the whole break.

One nudge per hour

A soft check-in appears once an hour, in the corner of your active tab. Dismiss it, do it, skip it — no streak math.

Wind-down mode after 9pm

In the evening, the break becomes a longer exhale and your feeds desaturate, so closing the laptop feels easier.

FAQ

Does it interrupt my work?
No. The nudge is a small, non-modal card in the corner. Ignore it and it fades on its own.
Can I change the frequency?
Yes — every 30 minutes up to every 4 hours, or off entirely on specific sites.
Is the breathing pattern customizable?
Today: box breath (4-4-4-4) and long exhale (4-7-8). More patterns are on the roadmap.
